So the Dodgers look like they will get the Wild Card Spot. I may speak too soon, but with three games left and two games over Philly, it looks wrapped up. If they tie with SD they SD gets the division since they both make the playoffs and SD owned LA this year.

Is Houston the team in the Central? Will the Cards peter and die after being three games up with a week to go?

It could be Pads vs Houston (and they're HOT right now) and the Dodgers vs the Mets... I'll take that... Can us LA fans really foresee a 2nd round playoff series after all these years? And with the way they're playing now - not rolling over and dying - its almost as if they'll do whatever it takes to get to the World Series this year!!!

If the Philly's got in I'd say it would be the year for them, but the Dodgers are doing it with injuries, with late inning heroics and some great play from their trade players and off season pickup - NOMAR!

Whew... Its been way too long. We need it. I need it. We all need it... A WORLD SERIES, should I say it... WIN (and not appearance).

LETS GO BLUE!!!

So how far do you see us going? I keep telling everyone that we're going to beat the Yankees in the World Series, but realistically we'll probably lose in 6 games in the NLCS.

I've reserved my opinion on DePodesta till AFTER the trading deadline. But now I can make a decision and share my thoughts on DePodesta's Dodgers.

The Dodgers on Tuesday acquired outfielder Jose Cruz Jr. from the Boston Red Sox for a Minor League player to be named, probably later this week.

Quote: "Frankly, the last two years we've had good reports on him and good numbers," said DePodesta, who was with the Dodgers' Jacksonville affiliate. "We haven't seen any downturn of play. He's a real good fit for us."

WHAT THE F**K!?!?!?

DePodesta has gone through TWO trading deadlines and nearly TWO full years with the Dodgers. He's managed to upset fans, make ill advised moves despite the current performance of trailers dealt and purchased, and finally, did NOT get a deal done this past trading deadline but picked up Jose Cruz Jr.

Let's reflect back on what Jose Cruz has done LATELY...

He was traded by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Red Sox on July 30 for two Minor Leaguers, went 3-for-12, then was designated for assignment. With the Diamondbacks, he hit .213 with 12 home runs.

Now lets look at what has happend the last two years which mr. DePodesta has claimed as 'good reports'...

2003 - .250 BA with 20 HRs and 68 RBIs.
2004 - .242 BA with 21 HRs and 78 RBIs.

He is a career .248 hitter batting .213 this year in 64 games.

"We haven't seen any downturn of play. He's a real good fit for us."

I love this quote. I LOVE IT! Mr. Computer isn't looking at his spreadsheet very well.

2000 - .242 BA
2001 - .274 BA
2002 - .245 BA
2003 - .250 BA
2004 - .242 BA
2005 - .215 BA (three teams combined)

Uh... My graph shows a DRASTIC downturn of play.

But I'll give Depodesta one thing... Compared to the offensive performance of the Dodgers this year and Cruz' production, yes, he's a real good fit. Mediocre and unproductive.

I won't go into what Tracy said... but he did say a ton of good things about Cruz Jrs' dad... Unfortunately, it was JUNIOR that DePodesta traded for and not his dad.

Another note... Brazoban is NOT a closer as I've been saying for weeks. A Closer would have strengthend a potentially strong bullpen which would have taken more strain off the offense. Brazoban as a set-up, yes... This would shorten up the game so much more and the Dodgers would be a game or two out of 1st if they had a legitimate closer.

I'm done.

I root for the team but realize there's not much of a team out there to root for because of DePodesta. If Tracy can get this bunch of guys back into playoff contention, the man is a God.

Nothing was expected of the Dodgers but nothing was expected of them last year. So getting solid now with hopes of starters returning, Valentin & Drew, we sure can make a push at top spot and we have 9 weeks to do it.

I still maintain Depodesta is not to blame for anything, BUT... if he doesn't do anything before Sunday then we can jump on his case.

I still think a trustworthy closer and starter is in need. Playing time for their AAA players has helped them get on top of the ball and produce runs.

Big series against the Cards this weekend. They need to dig in and show they can play up to par with these guys since they may have to go head to head once again in the playoffs.

One thing this team doesn't lack... HEART! They keep hanging on.

I feel bad he's doing poorly, but was DePodesta right?

The big shakeup with the Dodgers were in 5 Position players. All of which LA fans moaned and groaned and bashed DePodesta for.

For the Dodgers, the following positions were filled by DePodesta:
1B H. Choi
2B J. Kent
3B J. Valentin
RF J. Drew
C J. Phillips
The Dodgers lost the following players in a controversal trade or were not signed.
CF S. Finley
2B A. Cora
3B A. Beltre
RF S. Green
C P. Lo Duca

Here's the current totals for each group of players:

DODGERS
AB = 272
RBI = 46
Runs = 51
RBI PER 100 AB = 16.9
RUNS PER 100 AB = 18.8
HR PER 100 AB = 3.7
SO PER 100 AB = 17.2
Walks PER 100 AB = 18.0

DODGERS LOST
AB = 307
RBI = 43
Runs = 42
HR = 7
SB = 7
BB = 28
K = 52
E = 1
BA = .267

PER 100 AT BATS
RBI PER 100 AB = 14.0
RUNS PER 100 AB = 13.7
HR PER 100 AB = 2.8
SO PER 100 AB = 16.9
Walks PER 100 AB = 9.1

The most significant stats to me on this list are RBIs, Runs, BB and Batting Average. The only stat where the Current Dodgers are lower is in Ks. But by only by .3 per 100 at bats.

In the fantasy league I'm in here are the critical stats:
Dodgers Points Per AB = 2.99 with total points for season = 812
Dodgers Lost Points Per AB = 1.93 with total points for season = 594

Thus far, DePodesta's Dodgers are outperforming former Dodgers.

Granted they are doing their jobs in beating the teams they're supposed to beat. But what happens when they start playing good teams?

What is worrying me is the beginning of next month when we play Cincinnati, St. Louis, Atlanta and Florida back to back. Am I the only one a little worried?

But after two weeks of this season, I definitely think the Dodgers are going to win the NL West. Woo!!!!
